lesson I - God Was With Joseph!

|
This is the first series in our Joseph Bible lessons, based on Genesis 37. The concepts taught in this lesson include: God was with Joseph no matter what happened. God is with us in good times and bad. God is with us whether we are happy or sad. This popular children's bible story has lots of crafts including a Joseph paper doll, and two crafts for Joseph and his coat of many colors, one using tissue paper squares, and one using finger paints! There are also Joseph activities, an action rhyme, as well as the Circle Talk Time and a prayer. |

This fun, interactive preschool Joseph lesson is the second Joseph lesson in our series. It uses play money to illustrate Joseph being sold into slavery. The simplified Joseph lesson tells of Joseph's adventures of working for Potiphar, going to jail, getting out of jail by telling the king what his dreams mean, and Joseph succeeding at becoming governor of the land! The concepts taught in this lesson include: God remembered Joseph, even in the bad times. God remembers us too. He is our helper. The Circle Talk Time relates the concepts of the lesson to the children's real life experiences. There is a snack idea, pretend play activity, rhyme with actions, and a game to go with this lesson, as well as fun easy Joseph crafts to go with this important Bible lesson. | Toy barns | Place toy barns and plastic boxes in an area in the room. Set some dolls or Little PeopleTM, toy trucks, dump trucks, in the same areas. Set out the metal trays on the table. Show the children how to scoop the rice cereal, "grain", and use the funnels to put it into the plastic bags and close the bags. Then they can load the bags onto the dump trucks, put the people on the trucks, and take their "bags of grain", and dump them into the barns and plastic boxes. Reiterate some of the important concepts of the story, like, "God made Joseph wise, didn't he? He helped Joseph be in charge. Joseph helped the people by storing up all the food during the seven good years. Now we will have plenty to eat when there is no more grain. When the cereal runs out, say, "Uh-Oh! The seven good years are over! All the grain is gone! There is no more food to eat. Now the people are hungry. Rub your tummy. Let's help Joseph sell the grain to the people so they have something to eat! Use the dump trucks and Little PeopleTM to go get the food out of the barns and bring to other people. | ||

| Joseph Booklet Craft Pages (for one craft) |
Cut apart the pages of the booklet. Color them. Spread them out on a large table. Laminate them or cover with contact paper. (optional) Tell the children that you would like to put this booklet together. Ask the children to look at the pictures, and see if they can tell you which picture goes first, then next, and so on. When you are finished assembling it, staple booklet at the top and leave in classroom for children to look at. |

Joseph Paper Doll with Coat Sticker - Prep: Print both craft pages. Cut apart coats. Craft: Children color or paint Joseph, and color, paint or use Rainbow Maker painting wand to color both sides of the coat. (You just dip it in water. The sponges contain paint inside). Teacher helps children cut out the coats. Apply restickable glue to back of coat. |

Finger
painting Joseph's Coat - Prep: Cut out one of the coats that Joseph
is wearing on the craft page to use as a pattern. Make or purchase finger
paint. Place newspapers under children's work areas. Craft: Children
paint on the finger painting paper any shape to cover an area bigger
than Joseph's coat. They do not paint on the craft page. Allow to dry
(takes several hours - a "clothesline" and clothes pins is
a great way to dry artwork).. While you are hanging artwork, children
can color the Joseph color page. Put their names on the backs. Come
in a little early the next week: Use coat pattern to cut out coat shape
on the children's finger painted artwork, and they can glue their new
coats onto the Joseph craft page.
